Here’s the first tale.
On August 11th, 1951 the NY Giants were in second place.
They lost that day and dropped 13 games behind the Dodgers.
That was the 110th game they played.
They had 44 games left to play.
We all know what happened.
After 39 games, playing at the Polo Grounds, they caught the Dodgers, forced a 3-game playoff, Bobby Thomson hit a home run in the 9th inning of the 3rd game, “the shot heard ‘round the world,” and the Giants miraculously won the NL Pennant and went into the World Series against the Yankees.
Here's the second tale.
The Yankees are in second place.
On August 16th they lost and dropped 10.5 games behind the Red Sox.
That was the 121st game they played this season.
They have 41 games left.
Notice the similarities.
Can the Yankees pull off what the Giants did. Who knows?
But, the Yankees have already picked up 3.5 games and are only 7.0 behind.
What will tomorrow bring?
Let me know what you think.
The Yankees have picked up another game. They're only 6.0 games behind.
