TALE OF TWO YEARS

Here’s the first tale. On August 11th, 1951 the NY Giants were in second place. They lost that day and dropped 13 games behind the Dodgers. That was the 110th game they played. They had 44 games left to play. We all know what happened. After 39 games, playing at the Polo Grounds, they caught the Dodgers, forced a 3-game playoff, Bobby Thomson hit a home run in the 9th inning of the 3rd game, “the shot heard ‘round the world,” and the Giants miraculously won the NL Pennant and went into the World Series against the Yankees. Here's the second tale. The Yankees are in second place. On August 16th they lost and dropped 10.5 games behind the Red Sox. That was the 121st game they played this seaso

FROM "CHARMING" TO A "STAR"

FROM "CHARMING" TO A "STAR" A few months ago, I came across a Newsletter that I wrote in April 2002 featuring Rome's Hotel d’Inghilterra. Since I was going back to Rome, I thought that I should revisit the hotel. Also, I wanted to see their recent renovations. In 2002, the D'Inghilterra was part of the Charming Hotel Group. In Florence, the bistecca alla Fiorentina is a must, followed by some delicious Vin Santo and a plate of Cantuccini You can take me to Harry's Bar in Venice anytime! There's no better place in the world for a Bellini, or two, before their fegato alla veneziana. The best pizzas I've ever eaten are in Rome and nothing can beat linguine al astice at Rinaldi al
